“Defeatist” by CAMERAS // In Your Room (2011)
One of my favorite finds of the past year or so was hearing “Polarise” by CAMERAS. It’s been a while since that single dropped on Bandcamp, but finally that promise has paid off in the release of their new album In Your Room. It’s a collection of hypnotic post punk jams that pulse with dark energy and killer rhythms. The first single is “Defeatist” and it’s a great introduction to the band. It features vocals from guitarist Fraser Harvey, who has a similar vocal style to Paul Banks of Interpol. Also check out the pre-release tracks “I Know” and “Polarise” featuring vocals from the female keyboardist, Eleanor Dunlop, which is an even more interesting approach to the post punk sound. Imagine Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star fronting Interpol and you’re getting close to the sound.
